Presentation of the book ‘Portraits of the past’
The Alumni of the Degree in Journalism, Abraham Orriols, Enric Abenoza, David Recasens and Claudia Pons have presented their first book, Retratos del pasado (Portaits of the Past ), in the Auditorium of the Faculty.
The seed of this project is in the final work of the subject of Ethics of Communication professor Carlos Ruiz. A job that has a social dimension, because students choose different NGO projects that the teacher coordinates through the Catalan Federation of Social Volunteers, which carries out the Miradas project. The project usually crystallizes in a fifteen minute video, which some NGOs show through their web pages.
In this case professor Ruiz got in touch with Luisa Güell, head of ASTE BCN, Solidarity Association with the Third Age, and both agreed that it was a worthy and beautiful story to be told. “Actually, I trusted the students with closed eyes, because although I did not know them, I had seen the great work they had done and I saw the future,” said Güell.
Portraits of the Past began to take shape at the moment when the four Alumni met at ASTE and agreed that they would meet, talk and spend a little time each week with an older person. They did it for six months. The first day they decided not to assign Alumni couples with grandfather, but they preferred to make a meeting where the eight would talk and they would be the ones they chose according to the sensations transmitted. “It was very effective because the couples fit very well,” recalls Luisa Güell.
From here, they immediately set themselves the goal of obtaining concrete funding to create a book with these stories, explaining the relationships between different generations in a final product.
