“Verificat” is born, the first platform against the “Fake News” of Catalonia
Coinciding with the International Day of Fact-Checking, Verificat.cat was born, the first platform against disinformation in Catalonia, where students participate in the subject of Digital Content Management taught by Professor Eli Vivas, in the Degree in Journalism and Corporate Communication.
Verifica is an independent and non-profit journalistic project that puts the magnifying glass on the statements of politicians and seeks to combat the “sound” that circulates on social networks. It is inspired by platforms of the international Fact-Checking Network.
The objective is to combat disinformation without distinction of political colors through a clear and transparent methodology and, with the help of data journalism and new technologies. It is a public service tool to help citizens to contrast information and enrich the public debate.
The founding team is made up of the following branches:
- Fact-Cheking: They are in charge of technological and data journalism. The coordinators of the verification are Alba Tobella, Carola Solés and Roser Toll, journalists with great international experience. They are the hard core of a fact-checking team that includes three more collaborators.
- Storydata: Experts in data. It is completed by a team of journalists who are experts in research, analysis, visualization and data communication, headed here by the Faculty Professor, Eli Vives i Carina Bellver.
- Technology: In charge of Lorenzo Marini, founder of Precept, a Barcelona startup that develops technology to boost journalism. The design is in charge of Beatriz Díaz.
The project has the support of the Association of Journalists of Catalonia and our Faculty. We invite you to follow them on social networks: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
